Would you rather be Skinny or Fit?

A funny thing happened a few weeks ago.  I spent the weekend with some girlfriends of whom I had not seen in a while.  Everyone knows I have a passion for healthy living, clean eating and working out… but I guess one of the girls had never seen me lean out before a competition.  Now, let me set the stage, we all know someone who has had, or currently has an eating disorder, and it is a very sad situation.  When my friend, the one who is severly anorexic said to me in a bubbly voice and almost proud look on her face, “Karma you look great, your so skinny” I almost lost it!

When I am “in training season,” I follow a clean eating meal plan to a T with little to NO exceptions!  Plus, I workout 6 days a week.  So I knew how much work I had put into the last 3 months.  I was about 6 weeks from competition and being ready to compete on stage, so I will admit I was lean & fit.  However, I was very offended by the “skinny” comment.  My skin began to boil and it was dead silence in the room from after her comment.   All of the other girls stopped what they were doing to see what my response was going to be.  I corrected her the way GCB would be proud, “oh sweetie, I am not skinny and never want to be skinny, I am FIT!”  She instantly changed her tune and simply complimented me for looking great.

To me, skinny means your God given body has a natural slender build.  Most “skinny fat” people have zero muscle definition and take advantage of the fact they typically will not get fat when they eat crappy foods.  That’s about it.  Or like my friend, you do not feed yourself properly.

To be fit and healthy, however, means you exercise, lift some weights, keep your muscles guessing, you feed your body often and of high quality foods.  Check out my  Go-To –> Eating Clean Tips & Healthy Eating Foods

Just for fun, I googled skinny vs fit and guess what I found… an interesting article about how strippers keep their money makers in shape.  Basically they say they eat lots of small healthy meals a day, do hard workouts that include weights and yoga.  The stripper post also said in order to make more money, they need to workout and have a healthy fit look.  There ya have it!

So, which would you rather be, skinny or fit?  Well, if you want to get in shape & be fit, here are a few things to get started with:

  1. Clean up your diet.  Avoid drive thru of any kind, cut out sugar and white flour.
  2. Toss out the junk foods at home and replace with yummy fruits & veggies.
  3. Start some sort of exercise today.  Walk around the block, hop on the bike, start today doing some pgysical ectivity. (need more ideas on a fitness program based on your fitness level?  watch this–> http://beachbodycoach.com/esuite/home/KarmaD?bctid=1861298193
  4. Forget the soda and go for water! Aim for 2-3 liters per day.
