I admit, I am a pilates and yoga wannabe! My body loves cardio, weight lifting and fast paced exercise. However, as we age, I have found my body gets stiff, tired and not very great flexibility. Thank the Lord for PiYO! I admit, I thought I would be bored with a slower moving workout, but let me tell you, you WORK! I was totally Shedding Fat with PiYo! However, it is a low impact exercise that sheds fat, builds muscle and crazy awesome flexibility! As my friend Tony Horton says, as we age, we need flexibility to age gracefully! Did I mention I especially love that each workout is between 25-40 minutes… so no more LONG hour sessions in the gym, when we can get INCREDIBLE results in less time, with an at home workout! See how 2 of my friends had amazing results with Piyo!
Danielle H. was reaping the benefits of PiYo for years as an instructor, but she now loves doing it at home as well. Over the years, PiYo helped her lose 40 pounds and improved her strength and flexibility, PLUS it helped with Shed Fat with PiYo. Here is what she has to say about her experience with the program:
I knew things like yoga and Pilates were good for you and were important because of the strengthening and stretching, but I found them boring. I’m a Turbo and hip hop girl who can’t sit still and I don’t feel like I’m really working out unless I’m breathing hard and sweating. I took one yoga class and never went back. I was bored! When I saw that Chalene (my role model/mentor) had an “upbeat” and choreographed workout that had the benefits of Pilates and yoga, I was sold.
Myself and others like me stay away from Pilates and yoga because it’s slow and not entertaining enough for us cardio junkies who are used to moving quickly through movements. But PiYo allows us to do that. It’s fun! And I can do a push up now! I always struggled with push ups, but because of PiYo, I can do them and have toned my arms like never before.
My flexibility has also improved dramatically. I can do the splits again – I haven’t been able to do them since high school! With PiYo, I regained some of the flexibility I had years ago and my legs are so much stronger! I had knee “issues” and since I started doing PiYo, I hardly ever have any issues. I believe it’s because I have built up more muscle in my upper legs from doing all of the squats and warrior poses. Now, I even take 4+ flights of stairs at work without dying from being out of breath or my legs screaming.
As someone who was overweight and needed to lose a significant amount, I always wanted to focus on cardio…until I found PiYo. Now, I honestly feel better and feel like I’ve accomplished something I never thought I could do.
“I was asked in April to be a part of a 60 day Challenge group for the upcoming Piyo Program. I started my weight loss journey with Pilates & Yoga so I thought it was so cool that it had come full circle for me. Plus, my body was just plain TIRED from the jarring of my workouts. It needed a break. I needed a break.
But, I struggle with my food. And, I knew we had a lot going on in those 60 days including: 2 Girls’ Weekends, Family in town for Easter Weekend, my parents staying with us for 3 1/2 weeks, a Trip to Napa Valley with my hubby, buying an investment property that need to be furnished, and a bathroom remodel in our master bedroom. Lots of stress going on. And, how in the world was I going to watch what went in my mouth during those 60 days. That, literally, was my biggest concern. Not the toughness of the workouts but “Oh my gosh! How am I going to watch what I eat with all of this going on?” Not only am I a stress eater but I also don’t like to deprive myself when I’m at parties and have events. I took a deep breath and said, “I can do this.” And, I can still enjoy a few “treats” here and there because life doesn’t stop when you are in a test group. And, EVERYONE is busy and has lots going on. We can’t keep making excuses. We do the best we can and sometimes we’ll have some “treats”. That is REAL LIFE.
And so I began my Piyo journey. I was nervous at first because the workouts were only 20 minutes long (they got longer as we went on but usually around 30 minutes…only one was 48). I was going to trust the process. Then, I started seeing results! I especially loved the easy dinner ideas and meal plan to help me see even more results. This allowed me to shed fat!
I feel great! I feel stronger. I’m down 12 pounds & 8.5 inches! My chiropractor even said I have improved strength and flexibility. When she adjusts me, my body stays in place longer. Plus, she was impressed by my back muscles.”
